So as you make your resolutions for 2015, consider making resolutions that will make your work environment even safer. Your employees will thank your for it and they will be able to work for you more effectively.
To get you started, here are five workplace safety tips to keep you and your employees safe in 2015.
1. Require proper safety gear
Even if it is inconvenient, all employees should be wearing the proper gear for their job. Young employees are especially likely to forgo the proper equipment. Make sure that you provide training and emphasize the importance of proper safety gear. Have an environment where safety is number one. Make sure your employees know that efficiency is never a substitute for safety. It is never worth putting yourself or others at risk to save a few minutes on the job. Also – if you are working high up make sure that you have a proper harness in place.
2. Encourage employees to speak up
If something is unsafe, your employees will be the first to know. Stop a disaster before it starts by encouraging them to speak up. If an employee is unsure how to perform a particular task make sure they feel comfortable asking a supervisor or a coworker to watch them to check to make sure they are doing the job the right way. If an employee is working in a hazardous area make sure that they know the rules and are comfortable asking questions about them. Too many people don’t pay attention when procedures are being explained to them. Then when it comes time to apply those procedures they are not ready. Make sure your employees know that they should report all mishaps, even if they do not result in injury or work stoppage. By reporting all incidents, the management can know where the problem areas are and can develop corrective procedures.
3. Watch out for each other
Your employees are a team. Make sure they have each other’s best interests in mind. Encourage them to talk to each other to make sure that everybody understands the task at hand.
4. Keep learning
Technology is constantly changing. Safety standards that use to be the best in class are now outdated. As an example, check out our line of products. Not that long ago our state-of-the-art spill cleanup and spill containment products were extremely expensive, but now we can offer them to you at an affordable price.
5. Make sure you have the right tools and training for the job
Don’t let an employee or co-worker try to do work that they do not have the proper tools or training for. This is a hugely essential component of workplace safety. If someone tries to do a job that they don’t feel comfortable with, then they are at serious risk of injury. Also if an employee is missing the proper equipment, they will be less efficient and in danger.
With these 5 tips laid out above, you can make 2015 a safer year for your company. From our family here at Monarch Green to yours, we’d like to wish you a happy and prosperous 2015.
It’s been a pleasure serving you and the environment and we look forward to the possibilities of the year to come.
Q: What are good procedures for handling a gasoline spill?
A: The exact procedure will depend on your business’ individual circumstances. But here are the general steps for spill containment. The exact implementation of these steps will be up to you. First you want to evacuate the area immediately surrounding the spill. You want to barricade the spill area to keep everybody except your spill response team away. Make sure that everything that could ignite the spill is turned off and disconnected. If you need to, then notify the local fire department. While cleaning up the spill make sure that you utilize the appropriate protective gear. Then clean and dispose of the spill by following all local, state, and federal regulations.
Q: What is special about your technology?
A: There are a lot of products on the market to help clean up spills. We put a lot of effort into research and data-driven solutions to differentiate us from our competitors. One pound of our Incredisorb product will absorb at least a gallon of petrochemical based fluid. It also won’t absorb water, so it can be used in wet environments to contain chemical spills. We have spent a lot of time testing and refining our products to make sure they stay on the cutting edge of effectiveness and green principles.
