WHAT IS WATER HOG®?

Monarch Green has recently added a variety of new, cutting edge, patent-pending products specifically designed for the fuel handling, and fuel dispensing industry. These products are marketed under our WATER HOG® brand and they currently include the HI-STANDARD™, SPILL BUCKET WIZARD™, INTERSTITIAL SORBENT DEVICE™ (“ISD”) and the TANK DRY™ TOOL.

WHAT DO THE WATER HOG® PRODUCTS DO?

These products rapidly remove unwanted water and petrochemical surface sheen from various fuel dispensing components such as under dispenser containers (“UDCs”), Sumps, Spill Buckets, and Interstitial Spaces. The TANK DRY™ TOOL removes water from Fuel Tanks.

HOW DO THEY WORK?

All WATER HOG® products are made with an outer skin of special material which filters and removes petrochemical sheen, and an inner core of super absorbent polymer material that absorbs and retains water. These components combine to create a highly effective water-sheen separation device. As the unwanted water passes through the outer skin, surface sheen that may be present clings to the outer skin thereby rendering the water within free of harmful contamination. The water trapped beneath the outer skin quickly turns into a watery gel-like substance.

HOW DO THESE PRODUCTS BENEFIT THE FUEL DISPENSING INDUSTRY?

Regular use of these products can save operators a substantial amount of money by mitigating the corrosion of costly components in fuel facilities, while simultaneously enhancing environmental protection, and helping to prevent problems associated with regulatory compliance requirements.

HOW DO WATER HOG® PRODUCTS SAVE MONEY?

  • They can remove a major cause of costly corrosion of components and plumbing by mitigating the impact of harmful corrosion brought on by Ethanol Phase Separation and other corrosive elements.
  • They help the fuel dispensing/handling operator reduce the likelihood of having to pay expensive fines for regulatory non-compliance while simultaneously helping to protect our environment.
  • They offer an easy low-cost alternative to more expensive methods of removing water and fuel from sumps and other areas.
  • The fuel dispensing operators also have the freedom and ability to customize their equipment maintenance schedule by relying upon on-site employees to utilize these cost-efficient, user-friendly
products at a convenient time, such as off-hours when customer traffic is minimal. This advantage may enhance customer satisfaction and sales volume.
  • All of the WATER HOG® products are extremely lightweight which sharply reduces shipping costs, and disposal costs can also be sharply reduced by simply removing the interior gel which can contain over 8 pounds per gallon of water.

WHERE ARE THE WATER HOG® PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED?

All WATER HOG® products are made in the U.S.A.

ARE THE WATER HOG® PRODUCTS PATENTED?

U.S. and International patents are pending on all of our WATER HOG® products.

WHAT IS THE HI-STANDARD™?

Our Hi-STANDARD™ product is an extremely lightweight (as little as 2 ounces) revolutionary, a purpose-built absorbent device that removes water and petrochemical surface sheen from Under Dispenser Containers (UDCs) and Sumps. The HI-STANDARD™ is available in a 2-foot version which absorbs approximately .85 gallons, and a 4-foot version with an absorbent capacity of approximately 1.75 gallons. Each version includes a handy retrieval leash.

HOW EXACTLY DO I USE THE HI-STANDARD™?

The 2-foot version of the HI-STANDARD™ is typically dropped down into an Under Dispenser Container (“UDC”) whenever water (and /or surface sheen) is present. The 4-foot version is typically used in turbine sumps. The objective is to remove water or Petroleum Contaminated Water (“PCW”). Once the HI-STANDARD™ has been deployed, simply wait approximately 4-5 minutes for it to absorb the liquid, and then remove it using the attached retrieval leash.

WHAT IS THE SPILL BUCKET WIZARD™?

The SPILL BUCKET WIZARD™ is specifically designed to remove unwanted water and fuel from within Spill Buckets. It has the same functionality, technology, and attributes as the Hi-STANDARD™ however its unique dimensions (28” long X 10” wide) are tailored to conform to the round shape of a typical Spill Bucket rather than an Under Dispenser Container. Unlike the HI-STANDARD™, it has no retrieval leash due to the comparatively shallow depth of the Spill Bucket. Each SPILL BUCKET WIZARD™ can absorb approximately .85 gallons of water.

WHAT IS THE INTERSTITIAL DEVICE™ (“ISD”)?

The “ISD” is a tool that removes unwanted water that has accumulated in the interstitial space between the inner and outer walls of a double-wall steel fuel tank. The tool is inserted into the fuel tank Riser and lowered down to the bottom of the interstitial space. The ISD has three main components:
• A rigid fuel-resistant plastic perforated tube with an exterior diameter of 1.5 inches, and a length of appx. 36 inches;
• A super sorbent polymer pad appx. 2.5” wide by appx. 33” long with an approximate absorbent capacity of .25 gallons; and
• A 20-foot long, heavy-duty nylon retrieval lanyard with a snap hook that attaches to the sorbent pad
.

WHAT IS THE TANK DRY™ TOOL (“TDT”)?

The “TDT” is a 3.5” diameter tubular device which removes water at the bottom of a fuel tank. It is lowered down to the bottom of the tank via the fuel tank’s 4” diameter riser. The 4- long TDT houses a 5”-wide, Super Absorbent Polymer Pad which absorbs 1.5 to 1.9 gallons of water in as little as five minutes.
The TDT has perforations along its length to allow the water at the bottom of the tank to easily reach the sorbent pad within. As an added bonus, the TDT features a weighted nose cone at one end which ensures that when it reaches the bottom of the tank, it will “tip over” and lie horizontally within the water. This not only expedites absorption but when it’s time to bring the TDT back up the Riser, its conical shape automatically self-centers within the Riser to ensure “glitch-free” and efficient retrieval.
The Super Absorbent Polymer Pad is attached to the TDT via a handy metal snap hook which, in turn, is attached to a 20-foot long, heavy-duty nylon retrieval lanyard. Once the TDT is brought out of the tank via the lanyard, the used pad can be swiftly unhooked and, if necessary, replaced with a new refill Super Absorbent Polymer Pad.

HOW DO I DISPOSE OF THE WATER HOG® PRODUCTS ONCE I’VE USED THEM?

Since it is highly likely that the outer surface (“skin”) of these products will be contaminated with a petrochemical sheen, they must be regarded as hazardous waste and disposed of accordingly – per local, state, and federal regulations. However, such contamination is primarily present on the outer surface. The watery gel-like substance inside the skin is either free of contaminants altogether, or it may have a de minimis amount. Simply cut open one end of the product and squeeze out the contents. The remaining light-weight, low-volume skin goes into the HAZMAT bin. Once the water in the gel has evaporated, appx ½ oz of dry residue will remain and this also goes into the HAZMAT bin.

WHERE WOULD I USE THE VARIOUS WATER HOG® PRODUCTS?

Each WATER HOG® product is designed for a specific purpose. The Hi-STANDARD™ removes water and petrochemical sheen from UDCs and Turbine Sumps. The SPILL BUCKET WIZARD™ is used in Spill Buckets. The INTERSTITIAL DEVICE™ (“ISD”) is used for interstitial spaces in steel fuel tanks. The TANK DRY™ TOOL (“TDT”) removes water at the bottom of fuel tanks.

ARE ANY ADDITIONAL TOOLS OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED?

No. WATER HOG® products are designed to be extremely user-friendly and self-sufficient. They can be readily deployed and easily recovered by a single individual.

HOW DOES WATER HOG® ENHANCE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION?

When used on a regular basis, these cost-efficient products can dramatically reduce the likelihood of petroleum contaminated water from entering the environment via soil contamination and groundwater pollution.

ARE WATER HOG® PRODUCTS EQUALLY EFFECTIVE IN HOT AND COLD ENVIRONMENTS?

Yes, but it’s important to remember that extreme temperatures affect the speed at which water can be absorbed. Also, while WATER HOG® products readily absorb liquid water, they don’t absorb ice.

ARE WATER HOG® PRODUCTS SAFE TO HANDLE?

Yes, but please refer to the WATER HOG® Safety Data Sheet at www.monarchgreen.com for precautions and detailed product specifications.

ARE WATER HOG® PRODUCTS REUSABLE?

The rugged delivery and retrieval components of the INTERSTITIAL SORBENT DEVICE™ (“ISD”) and the TANK DRY™ TOOL (“TDT”) are specially engineered to enjoy a long service life and can be used repeatedly. The Super Sorbent Polymer Pads are intentionally not reusable. Reusing a product that has already been in a contaminated environment is likely to introduce contamination into what might otherwise be a contaminant-free zone, thereby exposing the operator to problems with regulators, and potentially damaging the environment.
